Eye Candy

I have an incredible soft spot for non-traditional materials. I stumbled across this gorgeous "dress" and can't stop thinking about how I could make it for myself.

I found the picture here.

DIY Mohawk Hat

Melissa and I had a DIY night the other night, sitting around watching Glee and working on various projects. I had found this Dior winter hat online over a year ago, and wanted one for my very own.

But, of course I would never pay money for one. So, I found a standard stocking cap hat, and got some matching yarn, and made my own.

Forgive the goofy smile.

This is what you need. Hat. Yarn. Large, blunted needle thing. Or some derivation of it. I know that tool has a name, but I just don't know what it is. Just something to thread the yarn through the hat with.

Take the yarn in from the outside, leaving a tail on the outside that is the length of the mohawk that you want. This will be your guide for creating the loops to come.

Now, you bring the yarn back from the inside, and leave a loop the length of your original string.
Then, you keep going until you have nine or ten loops, or have used up your length of yarn. Then, wrap the ends you have left around the loops at the base, creating a poof. Then cut another length of yarn and move on down the line.

Continue until you have a mohawk of desired length.

Then you snip all the loops in half so that they are individual strings.

Then rock your fabulous new mohawk hat.

The L-B-D

The dress that everyone has, the little black dress. Its become such a staple in my wardrobe, and probably many others as well, that sometimes it becomes boring or not very original. So here's my advice for everyone to make their little black dress a little more exciting.

Layers, such as the ones above by All Saints and Religion respectively, will make your dress much more interesting and draw the eye. Go for uneven layers, bunching, and asymmetrical shoulders...Go wild with them!

You don't always have to make your little black dress actually be just all black. Throw some eye-popping color or colors in there, like these Forever Unique dresses. Do note though that don't overdo it with the color, and besides the splash of color with a possible equally eye-popping design, try to keep it mostly simple.

Cut-outs are becoming quite popular and you don’t have to be excessive with them. Throw in a few interesting straps like this stunning Aqua dress and you’re good to go!

All these dresses I found on ASOS online store, so if you want splurge a little bit be my guest, but some of these ideas you can probably use to do it yourself on a little black dress you may already own.

Retaliation!!!

I am shocked and offended at the jab Maria took at leopard print shoes! How could she?! I planned a post on leopard prints long ago and never got around to it. Now is my chance to seize the moment! So here are some furrlicious trends I see myself purchasing SOON.

This Laurence Kazar sequined cropped jacket is SO Edie Sedgwick! Not to mention a complete steal at Etsy.com

Oooodalalee! Just looking at them makes me cry out in joy! Always with an eye for a deal I snagged these puppies at $24.99 at my local Target. (Luckily it was my birthday so really I got them for free..just braggin.)

These Religion metallic leggings are oh la latte worthy and super fun!

Don't forget accessories! Leopard doesn't have to be so obvious. You don't always have to go with the print. If you're not feeling in the mood you can always go for leopard inspired pieces, for a muted edge.

Its important to not over-do an outfit that involves animal print. I firmly believe in black and think its the perfect pair to animal prints. HOWEVER your beautiful lady fingers don't need to go without a splash of color and red is just the thing!

New Tights!

So, taking the advice of Eli in her winter essentials post, I decided to order some tights online. Many bloggers that I follow have bought tights from We Love Colors, so I decided to get some myself. One of the great things about this company is that they make a wide variety of plus size tights that actually fit comfortably. This is in addition to the regular tights and leggings that they have. Most of the tights are solid colors, they have 51 colors, plus a few prints and fishnets etc. I ordered them on Monday and they were here by Wednesday.
They are fairly high quality, I ordered two pairs of the more expensive tights at $15 and two pairs of the less expensive at $9. I think in the future I will stick with the $15 pairs even though they cost more, I have a feeling that they will be worth it in the long run. The $9 tights are fine too, but if you are serious about your tights I recommend the more expensive pair. I got royal blue, purple, red and yellow. I tend to wear a lot of jewel tones, so I stuck to the strong primary and secondary colors.
I was so excited when they came that I had to stop studying and try them on right away! They are super bright and I couldn't be happier with them. I wore all black to show off the color. They are traffic stoppers, not for the faint of heart. Don't worry though, if you are less flamboyent they have plenty of more mellow colors, so check out the website if you are in the market for new tights for winter.

Hope you like them as much as I do.

So Over It!

Well it's official. I am over leopard print. It's all over the runways for fall and winter and I couldn't care less. I used to like it quite a bit, and I don't hate it now. I still have a few leopard print things, including flats, leggings and a scarf, but you won't see me adding to my collection any time soon. Bleh. So, for those of you that still want to jump on the animal print bandwagon, I suggest looking at zebra, giraffe and snake print instead of leopard. They are much less expected, and in my opinion, because they haven't been overdone, they will look fresh and young.

Jist
Wet Seal

Zebra is my favorite animal print right now, it's visually interesting
and you can't go wrong with black and white.

Karen Millen

Gap

Giraffe print is fun. It is a less tacky alternative to leopard. You still get an almost polka-dot effect, but it's not common so you will definitely stand out.

Acne
Jimmy Choo
Dolce and Gabbana

Snake print can be tricky. In large doses it can be extremely tacky and we don't want that. So, I recommend accessorizing with python. Belts, shoes and leggings all provided a dose of snake print without being over the top.

Winter Accessories

To hop on board with Eli's last post about the incoming cold front, just because its becoming time to layer up to fend off the oncoming winter cold does not mean you can't wear some awesome and stylish accessories.

Scarves

                                     Forever 21                 American Apparel

A basic of any Fall or Winter wardrobe, scarves are both versatile and help keep you warm. I still do love the simple knit scarves with a little fringe, but right now I really a fan of the circle or infinity scarf. Not only can you use it as a scarf or hooded scarf when it's cold out, you can make it into a shawl, figure 8 top, layered mini dress that you can belt, skirt, or just about anything, meaning you can use it year round!
Gloves

                             Forever 21                              Dollar Store

Again, another basic of a Fall or Winter wardrobe, you can never have too many gloves or mittens to keep your digits from freezing. A way to make your gloves stand out are wearing bright colors if you're wearing more neutral colors, fingerless gloves, or taking a pair of plain knit gloves you can pick up at the dollar store and sew beads into them (DIY to come later of course).

Belts
                         Hot Topic                                         Urban Outfitters
Forever 21

I'm a big fan of belts, so any way that I can keep them alive during the incoming cold I will do so. With some of those big belts that many wear overtop of dresses or tunic shirts it is also possible to put over the top of your multiple layers to tie it all together.

Legwarmers

Urban Outfitters

Legwarmers used to be something I would wear under my jeans to keep warm during the Winter, but now is the time to wear them on the outside again. If you want to wear your warm knit dress and tights, these are the perfect accessory to add. It is also a possibility to wear them over skinny jeans.

Of course, these are not the only accessories that you can wear during the winter, but they will definitely become a staple in my wardrobe. Don't be afraid to expand on these toasty ideas!

Keep Warm ~ Melissa

Papilio Wedding Dresses

Stumbing again and I ran across these gorgeous wedding dresses. I have always had a soft spot for wedding dresses, and these are stunning. Papilio is an up and coming bridal design company out of Belarus. I have a feeling they are going to be sticking around.
